Original Royal Mint package, including certificate of authenticity is included with this 1998 Silver Proof Two Pound Coin.  The two pound coin was introduced as a circulating coin in 1998 (same year as this issue) with the first coins being dated 1997.  Prior to that, there were various two pound commemorative-only issues under the decimal regime, but these were not bimetallic like the current circulating version.  The coin for sale here is assuredly NOT the circulating version, which was made of a copper-nickel disc surrounded by a nickel-brass ring.  This coin consists of sterling (.925 Fine) silver with the outer ring plated in gold.  The weight is 12 g and diameter is 28.4 mm.  The edge inscription on the coin features the phrase, "Standing on the Shoulders of Giants," attributed to the great scientist (and Master of the Royal Mint) Isaac Newton.  A very cool coin!  The coin depicted in the photographs above is the actual coin you will receive and comes in the holder and with the certificate of authenticity as pictured -- buy with confidence!
